The sun bathed down on my ivory skin and I couldn't help but cherish the warmth and the light it gave off. In a few weeks time, I would hate the sun and any of it's light. I fluttered my eyes closed and breathed in the thick incense of the evergreens around me.
"I'm going to miss this, Cassie." My best friend actually my only friend, Aria mumbled. I look at her in puzzlement. "Me and you enjoying the sunshine together. Your my only best friend and in a few weeks we won't even be able to be in the sun. Who knows if you will want to be my friend after you fulfill the prophecy. "Aria bit her lower lip as she zoomed through her speech. "Aria, I will be your friend no matter what. We both know the day would happen and I can be out in the sun just not for long. " I smiled at her before grabbing my pendant. It was a family hand me down and had been passed down since the 1400s. It was a dark blue moon stone pendant that hung on a delicate gold chain. At first glance or if you didn't know it looked like a regular necklace but The Blackwood family witches had cast a spell on it. The spell was simple, it protected the user whether it be a mortal to a immortal from the sun. " You promise?" " Promise!" I laughed and she joined me in harmony. " Girls! It's almost dark get inside!" My brother Mason's voice rang out over the clearing. Aria pulled down her dress and I wiped the dirt off of my cargo pants before we raced back to the farmhouse. The gentle warmth of the porch lamps soothed my hammering heart. As we raced through the door, a shadow moved at the edge of the woods. " Bout time!" Riley growled at me before flicking the back of my head. My brothers weren't ones to show their feelings instead they preferred violence. But I knew that no matter what they would protect me or any other person in our family. " Jerk!" Aria spit before punching him in the jaw, she grabbed her hand and screamed a stream of cuss words. Riley smirked at her and walked away. I looked out the tank protection window, literally nothing could come through this window, and saw a group of white blurs that were bright against the moon's bright yellow light. The group moved closer and closer towards our farmhouse just as I heard a scream and clashes of metal. " Intruders!"
