Quiet Steps

Quiet Steps

A Poem by Penelope Voljeti

I love the

Pupils
That look up at me
As children looks at the stars
Eyes wide, mouths open, hands
Hanging at their sides.

Smile
That holds mine
As the earth holds the moon
And the moon pulls the oceans
To its pretend luminescence.
Skin,
That tells stories
Written in little fading lines
In places only she can
Make more raw.

Chest
That pulses under her shirt
When I tell her she's beautiful
And she smiles.
Hands
That glide on my body
Like the blades on ice skates
Making lines in the flooded grass behind
My house.

Her.

I've been playing around with this piece for a little bit now, and I'd like some suggestions on some different smaller details to change or things to add. Also, suggestions on the title would be lovely. Thanks for reading! :)

It's little things that are done in oft handed ways that catch our attention as different and that make us smile. these are the kinds of things that make our children unique in our memory forever.
