![]() As Time Goes ByA Poem by Kay
It is an unspoken proclaimed “truth” that -
as we age with our other half-of-the-moon we become dim-wittedly accustomed and lack awe. We overlook that fine face turned to the sunlight, glistening, lustrous; bright pupils and buttery lips, “how it used to be” - but, if we bothered to peer closer the portrait’s ink still flows boldly. It cultivates as discontent undercoated thickly with self-blindness; society proposes we are doomed to seek novelty in a world where a given thing is only enough for a miniscule fragment of time. Thus, it must be fate to strike enchantment and fall madly in love, then stare into the space our ephemeral dream occupies and feel scarcely any reverence. How dreadfully saddening this notion is - to fantasize passionately since the age minds can conceive love and ultimately as the dazzling butterfly begins to nestle in our hearts, we turn away: spiritless. I lose faith, if this be the case, wondering whether your gaze has emptied also; the once rosy, Heaven-smeared stare now metamorphosed backwards into apathetic blankness. Loneliness shadows this uncommon heart, blessed or cursed I do not know; I watch you with the same bewilderment as ever I have and love you the way an adoring sun embraces the snow. © 2017 Kay |
