![]() EstrangedA Poem by Kay
He sits beside me but feels distant,
like I'm watching him from the other side of a thick window. He jumps, gets promoted, high-fives a friend, presses intentively on his laptop, and tosses another shirt into the dirty laundry basket, then lies carelessly on my bed. There's nothing much present for me, no candlewick to catch my fiery match. I stare down and he's twiddling his thumbs, smiling sheepishly, sucking his tongue like a child drifting in class. My body clenches - can he not see this need? Last night I planted ten kisses on his neck and he yawned in some other world. One that I've outgrown. My soul-cup rocks, emptying; I'm thirsting like a butterfly in a field of dust. © 2017 KayReviews
