Not Again

Not Again

A Poem by Kay

not again

divorce around the block, chest in sharp flutters

a light at the end of this chaos

the boxing and burning matches

a radio channel that never turns

what are you doing, mother?

the door to salvation nearly open

swinging on its hinges in strangled hesitation

my hands slipping off the oil can

a stumble down skull-breaking depths

repetitive echoes of conditions

“i’ll give you six months to sort yourself”

but some books are permanently tattered

glue and tape can’t mend ant-size morsels

clinging onto the merry-go-round

at a speed too fast for logic

too deeply buried in sick attachment

round and round ‘til my lungs give in

and we each try to pin the tail on false reason

when truth stares back reflectively

in a mirror perfectly polished

in a trap we’ve set for ourselves

    -   just do it now

let

him

go.
