On a million pieces of rock

On a million pieces of rock

A Poem by Kay

On a million pieces of rock, I watched you -

saw the curves of hill tops and tips that could give any human desire’s flu.

Arms outstretched towards lounging clouds, I almost believed

any moment, your soft petal feet would climb to dreams conceived.

The subtle expression on your face, of pure individuality,

lost in your own world, darling; may I join your secret reality?

This Earth in all its dullness is wearing and tearing,

but my view here is pleasantly suffused; I can’t help staring.

Who could possess such an incandescent smile?

Even as the rainstorm approaches now, lingering is worthwhile.

It doesn’t stop you, the thunder threats and lightning lashes;

you’re dancing across the sinking shore as the wind crashes,

tucking pearls and shells into the blanket between your breasts.

Those small, tender things; how can my heart ever rest?

The naked wrinkles beneath your endless eyes, I’m compelled to say,

underscore the expanse of time and imagination of life’s bouquet;

a deep rose on the the water’s edge, is it coincidence you drifted here?

I shiver in the freezing blow, afraid of blinking in case you disappear.
