The Prophecy

The Prophecy

"

The first chapter. We are introduced to the story.

"It would seem that there is something not right in your head" Ian Carter shoved his brother, Simon, roughly into the seat. "And I suppose you're just figuring it out" Simon snickered, sarcasm lacing his tone. "Do not misread my emotions, brother. I understand fully well that you meant to sabotage the rites" Ian snapped. "Sabotage huh? Seems like a pretty big word to use. Ruin maybe, but sabotage...". Ian smiled, but it wasn't a reassuring smile. It was a you're-dead-and-you-know-it-so-don't-give-me-that-bullshit smile. "You know, for a white witch you are a goddamn freak" Simon told him plainly. "Yeah, you know what? I was just thinking of every way I could pay you back for what you just said" Ian folded his hands into a fist and Simon felt his bones start to shift. "Ian!" A loud voice called. Reluctantly, Ian raised his head to the sound of his mother's voice. She narrowed her eyes at them both, and slowly, Simon felt his bones returning to their normal condition. He'd never been happier to see her. "I'm sure there are lots of better ways to treat your brother" she snapped. "Sorry" he said, though he didn't sound apologetic, and left. "Simon, you must understand your brother, he needs time. This...is a very difficult phase for him he needs all the support he can get". "He always needs all the support, doesn't he? He's always going through some difficult phase. And its never going to end. I think you know that as well as I do". "Shut your mouth!" Catarina Carter snapped and then stopped. Simon shook his head and buried his head in his hands. Mrs Carter loked like she wanted to say something, but then she changed her mind and left.

"I see something. I see something dark. It approaches...It comes...It comes...like the wind...evil...evil...tears...and pain...and...suffering" Lorelei said suddenly. They were in their Clairivoyance class and the teacher had asked them to predict what they would have for dinner. Miss Daina froze in her tracks. She had been about to start criticising the students for lack of concentration when Lorelei began.
"The hour it shall come" another student, Whitney started. "No one knows" Megan joined. "The blood it shall shed" Lorelei continued.
"Forever it flows" Gabrielle put in. "The darkness...it comes...it comes..." They chanted together and slumped. One by one, the other students began to pass out. Miss Daina muttered "There shall be no end to it's path of destruction" before fainting.

Simon flinched when Ian coughed. He was on edge. He didn't like standing there dressed completely in black any more than Ian, but Ian was the first born and it was his duty. He, on the other hand, should be somewhere hanging out with his pals and getting the girls. But no, he was here - at the boring, stupid Confirmation. Whenever a prophecy was made, it was customary for every member of the Royal House to attend its Confirmation.
The Confirmation was a sort of ceremony where the diviners repeated their prophecy for recording. But this Confirmation was not going well. None of the diviners remembered a word of what they had said. And the last thing the other students could remember was walking into the classroom. The teacher, on the other hand, was still unconscious. "This is not cause for fear" Catarina called out. "This is not the first time in history" She reminded them. But no one seemed convinced. "So what does this mean?" one of their cousins asked. "It means that we all have to ready careful, for it's arrival" Their sister, Alexa answered. "Is there no other way?" another asked. "If we are to know, we will know. If we are not to know, we will not know. It's that simple" Catarina said, her voice steely. "Simple doesn't really define this situation, does it?" Simon put in. There were snickers all around. Ian glared at him. "Perhaps, if you have a better option, you would care to share" Ian snapped. "Oh yeah, a few options to keep you shut up" Ian shook his head. "Nice try, but you're stuck with me". "Oh, I'm so pleased" Simon rolled his eyes. "I'm sure there's something better than this" he added, and left.

He was halfway up the stairs when it came. Hitting him hard, like a torrent of ice cold rain. He clutched at his head and screamed. And then he fell and passed out.
