ShortA Chapter by GirlpuppyRedone introduction to my 'novel', Aimless. Reconsidering Title.Short Life
wasn’t easy for me. I was told I was going to die before I graduated high
school. My life seemed to spiral down, going nowhere, going into shock. I was
terrified. I was in a rage. I was put into a support group. There were five of
us. Cody Yates, diagnosed with Creutzfeldt - Jakob disease when he
was 8, was slowly dying with a painfully deteriorating brain. Naomi Whitelow, diagnosed with Pancreatic
cancer in the early stages. There was a slight chance, if they did the surgery
as soon as they discovered it, but her Mom was too broke to pay for it and her
dad ran out two months after she was born. She still went through chemotherapy,
but the doctors had no hope. Luis
Holley,
Born with leukemia. He and Iris were often teased because their disease is the
most common out of the 5 of us. They had right. They were the most likely to
survive. Sam Fisk, diagnosed with Bacterial Endocarditis, was less hopeful the rest of
us. He was diagnosed when he was 10; he was about a year older then everyone
else in the group. Iris
Camp, also diagnosed with leukemia. She was frail, and got sick too often. It
worried everyone. Cody.
Naomi. Luis. Sam. Iris. All sentenced to die before we even graduated. We were
tossed into a room every Friday for 3 hours with a psychiatrist. Best friends
doomed to die. This isn’t my story alone. This is theirs too. How we went
through our high school years, normally terrible enough, knowing we were gonna
die in our senior year. Who died. Who sits with me now, helping me spread the
story of the lost. Short.
Short lives. Short tempers. Long friendships with haunting memories. © 2011 GirlpuppyAuthor's Note
