The Angels Came Knocking

The Angels Came Knocking

A Poem by Katub

Your wrists were always the worst. And I saw it all.

I thought you were invincible, that you’d never fall.

You promised me the world, showed me it too.

Told me you’d make it better, I prayed it’d be true.

Everything seemed fine, until that one night.

You knew I loved you, that I didn’t want to fight.

I had a missed call, and a sinking feeling in my gut.

I knew something was wrong, after the very first cut.

‘Oh God, not you too.’ I mutter in my head.

All the cuts, all the wounds, should have been mine instead.

‘Why him? Take me instead!’ I shouted to the heavens.

Spitting and cursing, blood curdling inside.

All those scars of the past won't tear us apart,
though laying deep in my beaten  heart.

I miss you. It’s easy too see.

That instead of taking you, they should of taken me.
