The Black Rose (1/23/95)

A Poem by Katseye

The Black Rose

You were afraid to tell me.
Didn't think I'd understand...

White roses- they mean friends.
Pink- I like you.
Red- I love you, of course.
Yellow- I'm sorry.

Black roses- mean death, right?
At least to most,
They mean saying goodbye.

Not to me.
They mean a life of happiness.
For what you said,
They mean to you.

You said that when paired with roses:
White, pink, yellow, and red;
The black rose means-
We'll be together for all our life.

Yes the black rose means death:
Death of sadness and pain,
Not of love.

You've shared:
Your hopes and dreams,
Your sadness and fears;
Will you now,
Share your life with me?

Each night I hope and dream,
That you will bring to me...
The black rose.
And with it give to me;
Your love for life.
