She (1994)

She (1994)

A Poem by Katseye

She

She was so innocent, so happy.
She was the one who always smiled.
Always seen with her many friends.

Now see her today...
Which one is she?
Can't you tell?

She is the one sitting,
There by herself.
No, no smile.
I haven't seen her smile for some time now.

I've known her for many years.
When six, or eight,
She changed.
Someting happen,
Innocence lost.

Over time...
I've seen her gang of friends dwindle.
The smile that was once known to all,
Is known to so few now.
It comes less, and less as the years go by.

Willing to fight if she must.
At first glance,
She seems so strong.
Yet there is pain, sadness, and fear:
In her now.

Who put it there?
Weakness she'll never show.
Never once in all the years I've known her,
Have I known her to cry...
Cry for the pain she denies.

Am I one of her most trusted friends;
To know so much of her?
No I 'm not a friend at all...

I am she.
