Never Look Back (11/23/94)

A Poem by Katseye

Never Look Back

I know our days together,
They draw to an end.
Soon my love,
Graduation day will come.
My eyes will be filled with tears.
Those of happiness and pride,
Blending with those of sadness and pain.

Though I know it's not for the best,
I selfishly wish you might fail.
Then you could stay with me,
Just a while more.
I know this wish is for me not you.

For the wish I wish for you,
Is that you graduate with the rest.
Even though I know;
Your success will bring me pain.
Though it means you must leave me,
It's best that you go.

I could only be a chain,
Holding you back.
So gladly will I release you,
Set you free.
With all the joy in my heart,
I will watch you go.
But don't look back.

No, Please don't look back.
For I don't want you to see:
My heart breakin',
A little more,
With each step your takin'!

I'm not the one you need,
Nor the one you want to be with.
Don't worry about me.
Just never look back!
