What You Want

What You Want

A Poem by Katseye

What You Want (1989)

I have found the way-
To regain what you had.
And get all you want.
It's really very simple;
Requiring only two things of you.

First it asks that you have lots of money.
Money which you'll need to buy things,
Expensive things you don't need, want,
Or even like.
But these things you will need,
To impress people.

The second is to give up everything-
Everything that you are.
Just think how it will be,
To have all your friends back.

All it takes is to spend lots of money,
To become them.
You'll be so much happier.

Oh?!...
You don't agree?
Well just between you and I-
Neither do I.
I can't be happy,
If I'm not me.
Your true friends won't ask you to change.

If it's not you they really like-
You can change everything about you,
Til you fit the mold,
But I'll tell you this:
Sooner of later they will find out.
And you'll be left with nothing again.
You can't forget,
Who you really are,
Or what you really feel.
