Sit or StandA Poem by Kate Z.A week ago I wrote a few lines that began with "I wish someone would fire me" and ended with "I wish I could stop writing maudlin poetry." Today I decided enough is enough. I choose joy.
I wish someone would fire me,
Or should I simply quit? Argh! I really must stop grousing, And choose to stand or sit. Is it fun to sit indulging In the folly of complaint? To nod, agreeing dolefully That sorrow is our fate? Or would I rather stand and fight For my heart and head; Stop giving in to "poor ol' me", But trust in God instead? Hold on to good and truth and trust, The ancient preacher wrote, There's peace and life enfolded there, Each thought a joyful note. I choose to think of peace and life, Of sanity and love, Of wisdom, joy, and steadfast faith, All granted from above. And in God's time I'll stand again In another, higher place Where sorrow, sin and selfishness Will dare not show his face. There's gladness in just standing here, Or I can walk around. Upright I have more choices Than when I'm sitting down! © 2017 Kate Z.Reviews
