Through His Eyes

Through His Eyes

A Poem by Phoenix Alleena

Through His Eyes

“He’s the one!” She says

Her eyes light up, then

His best friend is floating

Way up on a cloud.

That same cloud

Drips sorrow in its rain

Over his head

She was the one for him

She’ll dance along

Her merry path

He’ll be left alone

Saying things halfheartedly.

“Congrats” with an undertone of pain

“I’m Happy for you” are his white lies

He’ll stand there hopeless

But a true friend he remains

He’ll be left as second best

The old pan left on the back burner

The one he loves will go away

For he did not speak soon enough…

Author's Note

Phoenix Alleena
Inspired, without all the warmth, from an encounter between
two old friends. For a moment, they both seemed so distant,
people I didn't know. I felt sorry for him, for if and when--
if ever he finds out her secret he'll be forever crushed.

Yes, this can really suck. It's hard, because when two people are friends, one might be afraid of mentioning their deeper feelings for fear of ruining what they already have. So, time goes on, and one loses interest, or never had it. Though they both mean well, things turn out bad. It's a truly sad thing.

Great poem, Katie. Good job. :)

These situations truly stink. But" better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all".

(don't think you need the period in stanza two)
