The Difference Between

The time has come to say goodbye

To the places and faces within our sight;

To let go of what makes us cry.

The cherished mem’ries of you and I

Stay in my head, and I hold them tight…

The time has come to say goodbye.

We may see each other passing by,

But now is the time to do what’s right;

To let go of what makes us cry.

Though this life’s never been a lie…

We must part from the battles we fight.

The time has come to say goodbye.

Like a bird, away I should fly

So that you may find the light;

To let go of what makes us cry.

Pain will never get a second try

It’s time now to sleep through the night.

The time has come to say goodbye;

 To let go of what makes us cry.

This is a great poem. It really makes the reader think about the many possibilities behind the words and the scenario, and can be translated in so many ways. It's so easy to relate to. The lines are so strong and bold. Well done, Katie!

Wonderful job! It fills the reader with feelings of longing, pain, loneliness, and remembrance. However, it carries a faint spark of hope among the sadness. It speaks of the pain of separation, and the joy of freedom. Great write, Katie! :D

I didn't see this until today in class. You did a wonderful job with the Villanelle.

I liked it! I loved how you switched between repeating "To let go of what makes us cry." and "The time has come to say goodbye." I really liked the line where you say that you're holding on to your memories tightly. It suggest that (though this is a departure) it's not. Good job!
