You Are Still Alive

You Are Still Alive

A Poem by Katie Kistler

don’t let the b******s get you down
you can just be a sad clown
you can just let them all drown
and don’t let the sidelines boo you off
you’re on the stage cause you’re tough
chest puffed and sleeves cuffed

oh, but I won’t put on a show
glasses smudged and dreams crushed
so now I’ve really got to go
and I won’t be the last to know
lines blurred and deferred
I heard the rooster crow

good morning, you are still alive
a warning"it’s rough at 25
you’re mourning the years that died
but there are more to be had if you just swallow your pride
there’s more to be had if you can make it to “goodnight, you’re still alive”
