Pretender

Pretender

A Poem by Katie Kistler
"

An older one for L I never posted

"
muted blacks
you call them shades of grey
is that a fact?
which one of us went to class today?
are you an art student
or are you an impudent
I said are you an art student
or are you an impudent
little s**t?
you taught them how to smirk
or how to grin
depends on the way they laugh at me
are you my best friend
or are you the local pretender?
you, my friend
are the local pretender
spirit blacks
just like your coffee cup
your spirit lacks
a hint of something akin to life
are you a true Smiths fan
or is it the change of
I said are you a true Smiths fan
or is it the change of
seasons pass
we talk less and less
and that's a fact
I only recently thought of you
are you just a Smiths fan
or are you still hurting?
darling, pretty words can't
stop you from hurting
