Over The Shoulder

Over The Shoulder

A Poem by Katie Kistler

In and of my own I watch my best friend party without me
Never one for trouble til she came along and helped me
Said I can dispel you of your silence
Even though you know that I quite like it
One for drunker than anyone
Please don’t end up like your mum
Although I know you love her so much
Shy away and quiver at a touch

In and of our own we watch cyclists’ drunken banter
Wobbly on our feet and in a distant sort of canter
Said I won’t drink myself to sleep
To please the wants of bleating sheep
One for sitting among the fray
Up all night to a haze all day
Although you’re right I think I’m not okay
Sleep away the wants of passing craze
