That Which Will Not Rust

That Which Will Not Rust

A Poem by Katie Kistler

She walks alone through the night
Under lamplight and the moon
And all it’s promises
The roses that are soon to bloom

Go on, the sun will find you
Lying naked in the dawn
Move on, the rest will find you
May it keep you far from harm

Underneath her armor
She bears a heart and keeps it warm
But these four walls are thickened
Made to withstand any storm

And if you cry it may not reach
The little nook beneath her ribs
Try as you might you can’t breach
The iron weight upon her skin

But go on, she might see you
And someday look you in the eye
Move on, for it might come true
But do not think that you should try
