Morrissey Girl

Morrissey Girl

A Poem by Katie Kistler
"

L

"
She is cold and detached
Like an 18th century English girl from a Dickens paperback
And she loves a fight
There is fire that never burns out
In her eyes mud-trampled brown

She is wont to be too self-involved
Like a 90’s material girl from an infinitely material world
And she hates her life
There is longing in a half-there smile
And in her eyes that stretch empty for miles

And she tells me she’s got it together now
She told me that nearly three years ago, too
She told me she’s starting her adult life now
Away from the past ghosts and gloom

Oh darling
Well you don’t see
Oh darling
They never let you be
Oh darling
It’s plain to see
Oh darling
You’ll never be free
