Oh Woe Young Love

Oh Woe Young Love

A Poem by Katie Kistler

When I was fifteen
I let my heart sing
But it sang much too loud
And made me scared to figure out
What I was missing
What plucked my heartstrings
So I would turn around
Pretend that it was all allowed

But I was just a little kid
And life had got me scared shitless
Of you, of you, of you
Of her and her and her
But mainly just of you
Cause you could be for forever

When I was sixteen
I felt amazing
And I could conquer all the world
With all the love I felt for her
And all her sweet things
They made me happy
Until I finally figured out
My love had turned from gold to brown

But I was just a silly kid
And life had made me think that all I did
Led to her, to her, to her
But you, then you, oh you
Made things easier
Cause you’ve been here since before I knew

When I was nineteen
I gave up finding
A girl that I could hold so tight
And tuck under my arm at night
But then I saw you
And all those lovefools
Sang pretty songs inside my head
She’s always been there singing them

And we are just a couple kids
Who knew the moment that we kissed
It’s her, it’s her, it’s her
It’s you, it’s you, it’s you
For better and for worse
One day I’ll say I do
