Esurience

Esurience

A Poem by Katie Kistler

Waiting for a simple word from you
Open doors and open chest
Try and stitch it up so I can talk to you
And wait around to play pretend
But your fingers are a scalpel
You tongue is salt
Lapping at my wounds
Who knew faded images
And touches from so long ago
Could ever be so cruel

Waiting till I think I'm finally safe
You come around and weigh me down
I tell myself you hold me up most days
I say it right before I drown
Cause your voice is like a dry sponge
It takes and takes
The life right from my lungs
Who knew everything you've ever said
Would be a wave of crashing dread
That couldn't let me run

I paint you in daring colors
I'll never let you dry
Add to it slowly
Every time
The hour hand ticks by
You get off on it
Yeah, you get off on it
When I feed you my heart
And wait for your reply

Aching for a sign to tell me now
How to fill my empty chest
Tried to stitch it up but it's a gaping hole
You've left me here a bloody mess
You pull til I unravel
Your silence snags
At all my rotting flesh
Who knew something that tastes so sweet
Could tear you up and make you scream
The cause of an early death

I painted you in daring colors
I hung you up to dry
But you came back to show me
No matter how hard I try
This won't be the last time
You get off on it
Yeah, you get off on it
You get off on it
Yeah, you get off on it
When I cry
