A Poem by Katie Kistler
"

L

"
The girl I love, she always has my back
She reads what I write out and writes me back instead
Instead of being as quiet as the grave
Honey, did I piss you off?
Pray tell, what did I say?

The girl I love, she lives inside my head
She wasn't always there, or at least I like to pretend
Pretend that once she might have walked these halls
Pretty girl, where did you go?
Were you alive at all?

She's darker than the night
Fading into black and white
We fell from the highest of heights
And she left before I said goodbye
But then I close my eyes
And there she is, singing to me like

Meet me on the floating bridge
And don't forget my sunglasses
Hey beautiful, I've got stories to tell ya
Meet me on a summer night
Down the stairs, yeah, you'll be fine
The gang's all here, they wanna get to know ya

But they'll never know you half as well as me

The girl I love, she always finds my hand
Erases what I've drawn
And writes her name in perfect cursive
Cursive letter "L"s until I'm dead
Darling, why are you still here?
I'm just a book you never read

Because the girl I love, she keeps me on her shelf
To skim from time to time or find a story she can tell
Tell to people she'd like to impress
Well, is that all I'll ever be?
Your pathetic, silly, heartbroken mess of a friend?

She's colder than ice
Freezing eyes gone all white
She fell from the highest of heights
And I left before she said goodbye
But when I close my eyes
There she is, singing to me like

Come a little closer, kid
Let me touch your fragile ribs
Hey beautiful, I heard you were ticklish
Come sit down and say hello
Later I can take you home
We'll sleep under the stars and spill our secrets

And I gave her my heart
But I didn't know she'd keep it
We're so far apart
How could she need it?
And I don't dare ask her
The last time she's seen it
I know when it was
She's sitting there, reading this

A poem
A simple poem
From her pathetic, silly, heartbroken mess of a friend
