Dance With Me (Alina VIII)

Dance With Me (Alina VIII)

A Poem by Katie Kistler

There is a voice that's in your head now
And it never goes away
It's telling you you're leaving
And begging you to stay
It says fall in love with the girl you knew
The girl that's marked in scars
Remember what she said to you
At the very, very start

She said she'd run away with you
She said to take a chance
You said kiddo, maybe I might love you
So I guess I'll try to dance

But she was tapped on the shoulder by another hand
She was trapped in the corner by another man
And you were trying so hard to understand
Why she said something at all

And all the rain can't wash away the brand
She left on your lips with such demand
She left marks all over your rubber bands
She snapped against her wrist

So stars and hearts still don't collide
Never even in her eyes
No dots to connect on her lovely neck
And no mark upon her cheek

And flowers still have yet to grow
Inside of her
Inside your own dark mind that's filled with with thoughts
Of how to get away

How to get away from her
Cause it's not getting easier
It's too easy for you to fall again

Cause she knows exactly what to say
To make you go and make you stay
She plays with you so carelessly
And you forget that it's a game

Cause you were trying to dance with a different girl
Before she took you hand and made you twirl
Into a different space in another world
Where she only spoke in tongues

She pulled the strings and watched you unfurl
Your heart and soul like they were meant for her
But for all the fun she claimed to have
She said it couldn't last too long

Oh, I'm used to it
Getting handed s**t
When all I give is good
And I'm used to this
But in the softest kiss
I believed more than I should

I believed in love
In such a simple touch
Cause it made me feel
Like I was burning up

But it wasn't love
It was a fiery drug
That the alcohol ingrained
Into my tarnished lungs
Where it burned and stung
And still does unto this day

When will it ever fade away
