Mix Tape (Alina VII)

Mix Tape (Alina VII)

A Poem by Katie Kistler

I forgot that I made you a mix tape
I forgot that I wrote "je t'aime"
I don't think that I realized it could have been love
Until I wrote you all those songs
And I remember how you said you liked it
I remember your arms on my waist
I remember things I only want to forget
Because they never had a place

Was there something there I didn't see
Like the way I'd catch you watching me
Beneath the lenses on your glasses
Baby, please

I remember singing
Baby please, just talk to me
It's such a simple thing
But you're a mystery
And I've kissed you
But it wasn't for myself
And it wasn't for you

I forgot that you drove me crazy
I forgot that you strung me along
But I've never been one to hold on to the fire
Cause it never seems to burn too long
But I remember how you played it too cool
Like it wasn't even your fault
I remember that you made me feel things
And I loved it but it felt so wrong

Was there always something stopping you
From telling me that you wanted to
On your bittersweet velvet lips, so smooth
Oh baby, please

I remember singing
Baby please, just talk to me
It's such a simple thing
But you're a mystery
And I've kissed you
But it wasn't for myself
And it wasn't for you
