Flashlight (Alina III)

Flashlight (Alina III)

A Poem by Katie Kistler

Is it bad to say I miss you?
Man, I really miss your voice
It's not enough to see your thoughts
Written out for me by choice
I remember when I kissed you
I remember it too well
Maybe I'm just feeling lonely
But I really just can't tell

I regret the things I told you
Love, I only wish you well
If you want to I can hold you
As tightly as you should be held
Let me wipe your tears away now
Let me kiss your nightmares clean
I miss your big brown eyes
And the careful way they studied me

Do you miss all the attention?
All the questions that I asked?
Well I promise you I wanted you
And I didn't take it back
I would love you more than you know
Love you more than anyone
Kiss your palms and cheeks so sweetly
Till your soul would come undone

There would be no constellation
Like the freckles on your back
You would be my stars and universe
And I would be your map
So just let me back inside now
Please just trust that you'll be fine
Let me hold your hand through darkness
Let me be your shining light

You know you need a saving grace, kid
Yeah, you never do things right
It's not your fault that you're so broken
It's not your fault it makes you cry
But I could be your standing water
I could be the dam that holds
Back the feelings and emotions
That have got you in their hold

So let go, my darling, go
Please don't let yourself be choked
If you let go we can hold
Out for something that can grow
Into better days and memories
Even though you won't forget
We can make this thing a little less sad
Ease the weight upon your back
Give it up
Let it go
Let it pour out from your soul
Give it in
Don't you choke
Don't you choke on your own hold
Take me home
