Peanut Butter and Hozier

Peanut Butter and Hozier

A Poem by Katie Kistler

Sometimes I think of you in the pouring rain
Sometimes I think of you all the same
Sometimes the sun shines too bright
Sometimes I stay through the night
Hand over hand
And mind over mind
Drowning in secrets
And living in lies
Sometimes I find your soul falling from skies
Sometimes I find you all the same
Sometimes I think of a bruise on your arm
And these hands that push purple and blue
Lust over love
Darling you blush
Hand over heart
Legs over mine
Don't try the gates of time

Molded wood and green grass
Buzzing in my ears like past preachers
Trying to get through
Sweeter than honey and stupid and true
Darling I'm never there for you

These trees will be the death of me
My voice will be your vice
These interwoven hands of mine
Will hold you through the noise
Your touch will be too bittersweet
Your voice will be too hard
My hands will trace your shiny scars
And kiss them in the dark

Sometimes you think of me on a summer day
Sometimes you think of me all the same
Sometimes the moon isn't white
Sometimes you wake in the night
Palm pressed to palm
Mouth pressed to mouth
Tasting the daydreams
And thinking too loud
Sometimes you find my heart clutched in your hands
Sometimes you find it all the same
Sometimes you think of the poems you've read
And how none of them rhymed the right way
Time over trust
Darling I blush
Arm over shoulders
And fingertips trace
Don't make this journey a race

Molded wood and green grass
Buzzing in my ears like past preachers
Trying to get through
Sweeter than honey and stupid and true
Darling I'm never there for you

These trees will be the death of me
My voice will be your vice
These interwoven hands of mine
Will hold you through the noise
Your touch will be too bittersweet
Your voice will be too hard
My hands will trace your shiny scars
And kiss them in the dark
