The Box

The Box

A Poem by Katie Cullen

the box
'tis assembled
for another
for many others
for Life
fashioned with wood
worn by years of
experiences,
influences,
broken dreams
disappointments
hammered firmly
in place
the nails of
fear
hate
anger
the box
'tis assembled
to provide the maker
comfort, restfulness
having organized Life
into neat, orderly
box-lined streets
ah, yet the maker
hath failed to
affix a lock to
the box
and whilst
in peaceful slumber
Life escapes
free to live
outside
the box
