The Art of Believing

The Art of Believing

A Poem by Kathy Mc Cathy
"

“Believing is easy, but thinking is difficult. Thinking about why we believe, this is still more complicated.

"

I lay my head on the pillow , and think about my distressed life ,

What is it that God wants from me everyday ?What is my purpose ?

I pray for heavenly signs but disappointed with none ,

Why do people pray , when there is actually no one ? No one who looks after us

Why do people pray for something with faith and hope , when all it leads to my distrust

Mother tells me to believe , but what should I believe when there is nothing to believe in

She tells me to pray , Who do I pray to ?

The gales start to rise in speed with a cooling sensation  on my skin

This is the sensation of a sign from above  , But how can I believe in it ?

Believing is having faith in the authenticity and truthfulness in your beliefs

The art of believing is very complicated indeed

I have no idol , no God whom I have blinded my faith onto ,

I believe in Life , the Circle of Life and the people in my life

I believe in what I see and what I hear , and only what I feel

I believe in love , in the feeling of intimate attraction between mates ,

I believe in music , the hearing of  symphonies of nature

I believe in the rising and setting of the sun , for it sets and rises everyday

Everyone’s art of believing is their own , some believe in the logic and some believe in the unknown

Me too dear Kathy.
"I have no idol , no God whom I have blinded my faith onto ,
I believe in Life , the Circle of Life and the people in my life
I believe in what I see and what I hear , and only what I feel
I believe in love , in the feeling of intimate attraction between mates ,
I believe in music , the hearing of symphonies of nature
I believe in the rising and setting of the sun , for it sets and rises everyday
Everyone’s art of believing is their own , some believe in the logic and some believe in the unknown"
The above lines. I believe too and thank you for sharing the amazing words and the thoughts.

Hi Kathy,
The art of believing, I wish I'd thought of it, an insightful message, so well presented!
I don't believe in the Supernatural, so I don't believe in God. For me, it's that simple.
I believe Life is what we make it, which includes finding our own Meaning & Purpose.
You have a gift :) ...I'm at my best when I listen to the rhythm of my words and phrases as I write.
Keep it up! :)

Belief is a very confusing concept. My parents raised me in a fundamentalist Christian church. I can remember questioning my dad about his faith and sort of ‘punching holes’ into his arguments. He got very defensive and angry with me. The reaction of my parents probably contributed a great deal to my eventual going separate ways from the church.
It’s natural to question these things, know that. You may never fully understand. Most never do. Belief is putting your hope and trust in something bigger than yourself- what folks should actually do is put their faith in something greater, but also admit to what they don’t understand. My thinking is that the more honest and open you are with yourself, and the more you admit to what you don’t know, the closer you will get to creating a personal connection with the higher force.
Be open with yourself, love yourself and those around you, be patient with the process of learning. That’s the best advice I can give you. Stay beautiful ❤️

It feels like your pondering goes full circle, from not knowing what to believe, thru some wobbles of uncertainty, possibly tearing down old unfit concepts, until finally coming to define how I see spirituality. Not as some deity on a pedestal surrounded by rules or traditions, but instead, it's a river that flows right thru each of our hearts, carrying along all the stuff that makes us all of one God. At first glance, this writing may sound like it's filled with uncertainty, but once we get to the surety of your ending, the rest of the poem looks like questioning with a means to this end (((HUGS)))

Thank you so much! It's my pleasure!
To believe in something you can not see or experience is a difficult one. I admire people who can do that. My church going days are over, but I believe in love and love thy neighbour. I believe in kindness. There just isn't enough if it. I also believe your writing got me thinking this dull Sunday morning. Thank you Kathy.

Yes, faith is complicated and it's hard to believe when God seems silent. I'm reminded of a song that asks these kinds of questions and concludes that it's ok to ask them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw1s1JbM0Bk The song is "Big Enough" by Chris Rice.
