The Robin

The Robin

A Poem by Katherine R.
"

I often associate my inner self with a robin. So here's a poem about that. Less depressing than usual.

"
I keep this Robin in its cage
The last remnant of a dying age
She yearns to fly, to stretch her wings
Feathers cut, and still she sings

Let me fly, set me free
You'll free me someday, you will see
I won't give up, I won't give in
I'll keep on fighting 'till the end

I won't die
I will fly
Into the setting sun
I am not an average One

The Robin sings
O, the sadness it brings
How I want to show the world
The Robin, with her wings unfurled

I want her to fly
And not say good bye
But to smile
And stay awhile

Flying in my heart and soul
Taking back the happiness depression stole
She is a free spirit
And she is fearless

She is the better me
Who knows? Maybe one day I'll see
The better me,
The Robin, finally fly free

Author's Note

Katherine R.
I capitalized 'robin' because I wanted to. 'One' I capitalized because I capitalized 'robin'. The words are, in this poem, the same. Doesn't make sense? Too bad.

This is wonderful, so filled with hope and desire to be free of the cage that holds this wonderful creature when it should fly. I love the metaphor in this poem. Very nicely peened. I think we all have a little robin dreaming to be free in us from time to time.

Reminds me of Maya Angelou's I know why the caged bird sings....'for the caged bird sings of freedom' This is really lovely Katherine, enjoyed.

Thanks Jack! I really appreciate it!
The contrast here is well done. I'm also fond of personification as a robin. It puts the whole thing in perspective. And you have very well captured the true nature of depression.

Thanks! Poetry: Fly! Be free!
A marvelous poem: the battle between two alter egos uniquely presented with a fine grasp of language. Amazing!
