What Reason Weaves, By Passion Is Undone

What Reason Weaves, By Passion Is Undone

A Poem by Wallflower
"

inspired by the title which is a quote said by Alexander Pope.

"

What if reason weaves for you

By interlaced threads of two,

A solitary cloth of truth

That leaves one end exposed.

A solitary cloth of truth

That covers end to end,

Lest a hand ache to break

What was only meant to bend

A solitary cloth of truth

Whose threads, although may fray,

Always align proportionally,

Lest scales of measurement decay.

What if reason weaves for you,

By interlaced threads of two.

 An imbalance in the solitude

That is itself, comparison composed.

What if reason weaves for you

A solitary cloth of Truth

That fingerprints always refuse.

Fingerprints that will point to

The thieving hand that tipped the scales.

Truths that find reason in frequencies"

The cons outweigh the pros.

Found frequently to feign the feeling

Of more frequent highs than lows.

Truths that find reason in deficits"

The loss surmounts the gain.

Where we find the truth of Joy

Defined by the harder hits of pain.

And Reason has always lay with Hope,

That we will one day draw blood from a stone.

When passions of pain long to meet their match

And so they persevere through the alone.

When reason weaves the unreasonable

Based on the premise of pain

It takes the passions of pleasure and freedom

To restore its rightful name.

For when reason weaves without threads of hope

That string us wearily along,

We can see the cloth of truth

Uncover reason’s wrong,

This is an intricately-woven fabric of words just like the cloth of truth itself.. and just like the latter its material is made up of a myriad inconsistencies and ambivalences. I am much in favour and admiration of works of art that are inspired by something which is not generic but is universal truth and is individual in itself. This poem reflects and explores with intelligent complexity the very profound words of Pope's simple aphorism. Reason and passion are both inter-complimentary and inter-conflicting. Many many lines of this poem are fathomless and must be digested slowly and studied with care before moving on satisfactorily to the next.
There are many incisive and charming line-groupings to be found within this piece but if I should choose one:
"Truths that find reason in frequencies
The cons outweigh the pros.
Found frequently to feign the feeling
Of more frequent highs than lows."
...Beautiful construction and insightful appreciation. The recycling variation centred around the use of "frequency" is very cleverly arranged.
There is far too much depth to this work to be able with any kind of finality to come to a conclusive theory about what is what and which is which.. Reason and passion and truth; right and wrong... all our inextricably intertwined and inter-related, and ultimately mere catalysts for one another.

OMG....those repeating lines were so effective and the feel, aura, not sure how to describe it, was very surreal and dare I say sparkly (sorry, the feel of this left me a little breathless). The writing was very solid and the yin and yang portion was eloquently stated. Amen for passion, I truly would rather be passionate than reasonable when it comes to my love. Very nice write...I really like it.
