One Day

One Day

A Poem by Wallflower
"

Never settle for less than you deserve.

"

This world is not a museum,

And I am not ‘a piece’

This body does not signify

Your misogynist release.

One day there will be eyes

That are only made for me,

That will gaze upon my face and find

Everything you failed to see.

One day there will be a pair of hands

Whose fingers ache for mine,

Who won’t point out my imperfections,

Or draw vanity lines.

One day there will be ears

Who hear music in my voice,

Who listen to every note I sing

By necessity, not by choice.

One day there will be a pair of lips

Who speak of me in awe,

Who will find the lack of language

Is our love’s one and only flaw

One day there will be a heart

Whose beat depends upon my own,

Who can see all the love it has to give

Without ever being shown.

when i was a boy, my grandfather used to tell me, "it's not a museum" when i stood there with the refrigerator door open wondering what little goody i might find...oh, about your poem: what the other sees is always the consequence of who we let into our heart...the fault and consequence are always ours...kapish?

Very nice poem indeed, Wallflower. I like the structure, the tight rhyme and meter, and the sentiment. In general, I have to admit that this kind of poem is not the normal style that I tend to read and enjoy, but yours is definitely an exception to that rule. Beautiful.
