Chapter 10

Kate sat next to the large window. Deadly had managed to make a dinner she had never expected from him. But, yet, it didn’t make her feel more comfortable around him. The darkness in his eyes made her shiver and the fear of being hated, crushed her hopes. However much she wanted to let go of the awareness about him, Kate couldn’t relax her mind enough to do so. She needed to be in control of her own life. Deadly was to arrogant to be part of it. Or at least that what she believed.

“So how comes that you ran against the wall?” Deadly asked, letting himself fall into a chair next to her after placing two cups of steaming tea on the small table between them. The air around them smelled like a peppermint.

“I am not going to tell you, as simple as that!” Kate refused to answer his question.

“You are stubborn,” Deadly laugh, reaching for the tea. “Have some tea and it might melt your anger towards me!”

“I am not angry with you,” she rolled her eyes.

“Well then lets call it hate then,” he looked her with stop- being- silly look. “Why do you hate me so much?”

“I don’t,” Kate said, taking the cup of tea, drinking the hot liquid. It tasted nice and she had to admit Deadly wasn’t that useless in the kitchen after all.

“So then cut the evil game and let me show you I am not as bad as you think I am!” Deadly grinned. “This is just another reality we are in now and as long as we exist, we should enjoy our life’s without making it hard to each other.”

“And what to you have offer to me?” Kate narrowed her eyes, sending Deadly a look over the cup of tea.

“Just me and nothing shiny or fancy,” he smiled. “Al tough the place we are is something what everyone don’t have. It took me some time and money to build it, but its like a special second home for me now.”

“You have lost me here?”

“You have never picked up any silver boxes while playing?” He sounded surprised.

“Silver boxes?” Kate placed the cup between her hands and lifted her feet up, curling them together underneath her.

“They are like green and golden ones, but they troop pieces for the Safety house!” Deadly explained.

“Never heard of them,” Kate shook her head.

“Well they do cost real money and are rather expensive,” he smiled. “But I got paid good money so I decided to get one of the most useful things in the game. The Safe house.”

“Tell me about it!” Kate looked at him. The stern face of a young man, full of wise thoughts and strain to contain himself for doing something Kate could have imagined he wanted so badly to do.

“Did you ever read the game news?” he grinned. “This was the fist thing I saw when I started my account. How did you managed to miss that?”

“I like to play and if I log in I don’t pay a tension on things what appear on homepage!” she explained. “And I don’t use money to buy my way to the top.”

“No you don’t, but you use your other abilities to get to people and make them attached to you, Blue!” his tone was annoyed, but contained.

“You have no right to make me feel bad about it,” Kate hissed. “Its not my fault that people feel that way.”

“Oh yes it is and I know you f*****g love it,” Deadly hissed back. “If I would have known what a mess you make me go trough, I would have popped you every time you appeared in front of me!”

Kate was taken by surprise, but she managed to put herself together with no time. How did he dare to say that? Was he really making her sound like a merciless monster, eating on other players souls? She couldn’t stand it any longer. With a rough move she placed the half empty cup on the table and stud up. Her head spanned a little, but the anger boiling inside her gave Kate a strength to walk.

“Walking away, aren’t we?” Deadly remained his seat.

“Shut up,” Kate hissed, finding her way to the door, placing her hand to the security camera.

Access declined!”

“Don’t think I will!”

Kate tried again and again, but got the same answer every time.

Access declined!” the computer said countless times.

“You better come and finish your tea and I will tell you something about the place you are!” Deadly laugh loud, obviously enjoying the joke over Kate.

“Go to hell!” she said with a grate anger and sat on the floor next to the door.

“I will one day, but today is not the day,” he gave her an answer, rising from the chair. He was tall and stern and the dim light played on his uniform. The silver lining over her shoulders sparkled on the light.

Kate found herself starring him while he walked out from the room. Her eyes followed every step he took, hoping he would show her the other way out of the place he had brought her.

“I am going to take a shower now and I hope you have reconsidered your actions by the time I get back,” he said before disappearing.

“Kyle?” she reached for her computer.

Yes, Blue!”

“Can you hack me out from here? And send a safe door to my ship?” she ordered.

I am afraid I cant reach the system Matt has created,” Kyle said with a sad tune. “And your ship is still in the VRU base. Unless I know the specific coordinates of the place you are, I cant make it appear there.”

“Are you kidding me?” she hissed.

I am sorry, Blue, but there is not much I can do to get you out. Its the Safe house and only Deadly has a ability to get in and out!”

“I cant believe he has done it!” Anger shocked her body and she rise from the floor, stumping towards the bathroom. “And who the hell is Matt?”

Matt is Deadly personal computer,” Kyle explained. “Looks like you are not the only one who named me.”

“Well he is not going to get away with that so easy,” she said, pushing the bathroom door open. All she heard was a water running from the shower and then it was turned off. Her cheeks turned red when she saw Deadly emerging from the shower. His face turned into a grin when he saw Kate standing like a frozen statue by the door, unable to jump out from the room.

“Enjoying the view?” he grinned wider, reaching for the tower and wrapping it around his lower body. “Oh man I wish you could have at least knocked first.”

“Sorry,” Kate started slowly and backed of out of the door.

“Stop running,” Deadly stopped her, slamming the door closed behind her with a jump. “I am clad you were thinking about joining me.”

“I wasn’t going to...come...” Kate’s words went blurry when Deadly leaned over her. All he was wearing was a towel. His body smelled like a expensive body-wash.

“And you really think I believe a word you say?” he smiled. “You came into my bathroom while I was having a shower and now you are making up stories. What did you lose here?”

“I came to ask you to let me out this place!” Kate straightened his hold and took a big breath. “You have no right to keep me here!”

“You knocked yourself out today and I want to make sure you are fine so I make you stay till tomorrow,” he pulled away. “End of the story!”

“No, I don’t think so!” Kate argued. “I need to go back to VRU base right now. So let me out now!”

Deadly only laugh, turning his back to her. Kate narrowed her eyes, but suddenly her eyes grew large. Across Deadlys back she saw three long white scars. They all ran same way, looked identical and made her feel fear.

“They don’t hurt any more,” he said with serious voice, just like he had heard Kate asking the question in her head.

“What happened?” She felt very bad in her stomach. Who dared to do that to another human?

“Its a long and painful story and I would not like to go into that now,” he answered and turned to face Kate. “I am not as perfect as you might think I am!”

“Can I ask you a question?” she took a deep breath and closed her eyes for second.

“Go ahead!” Deadly stud in front of her, tilting his head slightly on his side.

“What is so special in me that you keep trying to save my soul?”

Darkness in his eyes deepened, making Kate shiver with fear. Did she ask a wrong question and was going to pay hard for that? She waited the blow, pushing her back against the closed door.

“I am not trying to save you soul,” Deadly smiled slightly.”I just think you are very...attractive person and I like to be around you. Al tough you make me f*****g mad sometimes.”

Kate blushed. She had never dated anyone and the only date she ever had had being ruined because of the game. No body had ever paid her a compliment as such and now she felt awkward. Deadly was strong and good looking man with the power over her mind. It was a simple choice- surrender or fight back.

“So you are just another player who feels they need to control the individual minds?”

“No, but I would like to be the best!” he reached his hand to pull Kate away from the door. “If you excuse me now, I need to get some clothes on. I cant walk around like this forever. Unless, of course, you join the club and get your uniform off.”

“Keep dreaming,” Kate snorted, walking out from the room.

“No thank you,” Deadly grinned. “Gotta share a bed with you tonight and I am afraid dreams like that ain’t make you feel comfortable next to me. I am a man after all and might not be able to contain my hunter nature under control!”

“I don’t thinks so,” she disagreed. “I am sleeping in the armchair!”

“Oh no you are not!” he walked across the room and opened the small drawer next to bed, pulling out a pair of boxers. “Excuse me,” he smiled and trooped the towel on the floor, standing, once again, naked in front of Kate.

Shocked, she closed her eyes.

Oh man, he is fit! Her brain told her.

“Are you finished?” she whispered.

“Are you embarrassed that you have seen my naked butt?” Deadly shoot back with a question.

“Oh no,” Kate lied. Her face was as red as beetroot.

“You are very bad liar, Blue!” he caught her lie. “Sounds like you have never seen a naked man in your life?”

“That is not your business really,” she sigh. “And so what that I haven’t seen a naked man before. Is that a bad thing?”

“Oh man am I really talking with a woman who is an innocent?” his eyes grew large. “The way you talk made me thought you are as bad as me.”

“Well you were wrong,” she kicked.

“I guess it makes us even,” he smiled, walking over to her. “Time for a bed!” With a easy move he lifted her off the ground.

“PUT ME DOWN!” she complied, but Deadly didn’t seem to hear. He carried her to the bed.

“You might want to take your uniform of tough as its not the most comfortable thing to sleep in,” he grinned while jumping over her to the other side of the bed. “And don’t even think about escaping into the chair or I will drag you back into a bed and tie you down.”

“You will pay for it!” Kate hissed and pulled the blanked over her head.

“You better make it worth the while then,” Deadly laugh and turned his back to her. “Lights off, Matt!” he shouted and the room settled into a darkness. “Good night, Blue!” he whispered and she felt gentle kiss on her cheek. Cold feeling turned her stomach around, but she remained put.

“Nasty dreams, Deadly!” she hissed and closed her eyes.
