Chapter 4

Kate didn’t believe how much she missed the loudness of the town she lived in the real life. The room she was supposed stay was just so plain and quiet that Kate thought the possibility of going crazy was pretty sure. She found herself thinking about the green walls of her bedroom and the purple finish in her bathroom. Most people would have liked the pureness in the room Kate was, but for her it felt like a minimalistic hospital. And the quietness made her feel like she was in a grave yard, spending her loneliness with ghosts.

After Destroyer had left, Kate felt depressed. He was still very young, but sometimes Kate noticed him talking like an adult who knew more than people could read out from the outside.

Ma’am?”

Kate jumped when the computerised voice filled the dead silent room. She rise from the bed and looked around.

“Yes?” She felt silly. It was just like she was talking with herself. “Who are you?”

I am sorry for scarring you! I am your personal computer!” the voice answered. “I am programmed just for you and your needs.”

“What is your name?” Kate didn’t know how she was supposed address her personal computer.

I don’t have a name, ma’am! I wasn’t given one when I was first programmed. Only you can name me!”

Kate was surprised. Why did she had a personal computer? Destroyer had mentioned something about it, but as they had got carried away with the story she had told him, she never got a change to ask.

“How do you want to be called?” She asked as there was no name she could have had in her mind. Was her computer male or female? The voice sounded to computerised that she couldn’t make a difference.

I have got no right to choose the name.” the computer said with monotonic sound.

“Well can you play any music?”

Yes, of course,” the computer said. “I am able to do anything you wish, expect change human feelings.”

“Can you get me out of the game?” Kate felt sudden hope.

I am afraid not!” Computer broke her hope as fast as it had appeared.

“Well then lets go back to the music then,” Kate asked with a pity in her voice.

What would you like me to play?”

“The first track you find!”

The computer took a few seconds and suddenly the room was filled with Kyle Minogue song. Kate did know what was it called, but she knew now what to name her computer.

“I will call you Kyle!” she announced. “Can you please change your voice tone to something more human like?”

Yes, of course!”

The voice Kate heard in her room was now just like she had wanted- real and human. Al tough she knew she was still talking to someone who only existed in the social network.

Kyle?”

Yes, Ma` am!”

“Can anyone else hear us?”

No,” Kyle answered. Her voice was as sweet as a young female.

“Can I link to someone else trough you?” Kate was now curious.

If you know who you want to link to then I can connect myself to their personal computer.” Kyle explained. “But I can only do it when I get a permission from the person you are after.”

“Can you connect me to Mac?”

Kate knew she couldn’t keep away Mac. He was the best friend of her and knew her the best. However much VRU hated EIC and the other way, She was never going to give up on their friendship.

Yes, I can give it a try!” Kyles voice filled with computerised laugh. “Al tough I am not supposed to!”

“Will you get in trouble?” Kate felt a little scared.

No, not really.” Kyle said. “VRU members cant track the communication unless they have planted a micro bug into my system, but I have had a check and there is nothing I could find.”

“You sure you haven’t missed any?”

I was programmed with extra software to protect your privacy by someone who cares much about you.”

“By who?” Kate was astonished. Who wanted to give her a extra privacy? Mac? Destroyer? Or someone who Kate didn’t want to think about, but she couldn’t stop his mind.

I didn’t catch the name of the user unfortunately as they restarted my brain department just before.” Kyle answered. “I am sorry, ma’am!”

“Call me Blue!”

Yes of course, Blue!”

“So can you connect me to Mac now?” Kate felt an urge to reach out for his friend. There was so much information she had collected and she needed to share it.

I am on it now, Blue!” Kyle announced.

Kate waited. She really felt depressed. All the action what had been taken a place earlier made her think about Deadly even more. Why did he protected her so much? Kate knew she felt some kind of warmth towards him, but she never thought he was going to attack the head of VRU for her. Al tough Capitan Maximums was the worst person she had ever met. Deadly however was someone she had feared to meet since they started to play together. Not that she thought he would have been dangerous, but the connection they shared was too powerful. And now- after finding out the real identity of him- Kate realized she had been right to be scared from the very beginning.

Connecting in 3..2..1..”

Kyles voice cut trough her tough.

BLUE?” Mac.

Its so good to hear you!” Blue.

Same here.” Mac.

Did you get back safe?” Blue.

Yes. Why?” Mac.

I was worried that VRU has sent a army after you.” Blue.

Under VRU you mean your boy-friend.” Mac.

Kate heard Mac laugh. She felt a small smile appearing into her face.

How many times I have to remind you that I am still single!” Blue.

Single? I thought we have kind of a special relationship?” Mac.

Yes, you are right, but we are not allowed to be together.” Blue.

Really? Who is going to stop us?” Mac.

Capitan Maximums.” Blue.

Sound like you have a very interesting story to tell!” Mac.

Kate knew she needed to tell Mac everything. She didn’t want to give up on him so Mac needed to know what mess they had got themselves into now.

I was told of because I fly with you.” Blue.

She didn’t know how to start. Dis she really want to tell Mac absolutely everything?

So? Who can stop you?” Mac.

The leader of VRU made a drama about it when I emerged to the base.” Blue.

I wish I could have seen it.” Mac.

Kate heard him chuckle.

Well you really should have seen his face when one of the VRU members flew over others and smashed his wrist into his face.” Blue.

Sounds like you have some proper fun there in VRU. There is not much happening in EIC. There is not even any females I have yet met.” Mac.

At least you have no problem with being alone in the horde of females. I am the only woman here and all the guys make me feel awkward” Blue.

I wish. That would make me so happy.” Mac.

Only you could say that.” Blue.

So you feel lonely?” Mac.

Kate caught a note of sadness in his voice. She was happy they were only connected by the computers or she could have done something very stupid to make the sadness disappear of Macs voice. Al tough Kate had always thought about cuddling as a not needed physical contact she had to consider that having to have to put up with a few in the resent past, she had to admit it needed to belong to her word sooner or later.

I don’t know what I feel, but I really need a hug right now.” Blue.

She heard Mack sigh and then laugh.

What ever you do, don’t leave your room for a next ten minutes. “ Mac.

What you mean?” Blue.

Just stay where you are, OK!” Mac.

OK.” Blue.

Kate didn’t even know what to think. Why did Mac wanted her to stay in her room? What was he up to now? Million different questions filled her mind, but none of them managed to get a reasonable answer. She closed her eyes and lie on his back.

“Kyle?” she whispered.

Yes, Blue!” Kyles voice was like a shock to her ears.

“Can you telebort yourself into someone else’s department?”

No, this is impossible.” Kyle explained. “Human body is to fracture to do so. You only teleport yourself when your ship gets shot down and even then you just get closed into a capsule in your ship and it flies you back to the coordinates you have chosen or if you have no other destination you will be escorted to your home base.”

“What happens with you afterwards?” Kate opened her eyes and looked the plain sealing.

You are put into a twelve hour coma so your body could regain its full strength.”

“What about the ship?” Kate sat up.

It appears in the same coordinates as your coma-dosed body so your computer- me- can repair it.”

“So we cant die in real?”

Not that I know of.” Kyle said.

“Do you know how I get out of the game?”

No,” Kyle answered. “There is no current information about that in the system.”

“Can you please keep your eye on it and let me know if there is any change for me and everybody else to return the reality.”

As you wish, Blue!”

Kate fell back to her bed. She felt tired and needed someone to comfort her. She had always get by without others, but now, when her walls had nearly crumbled, she needed to be held by someone who could have protect her from everything. She didn’t care who was it going to be- Mac, Destroyer or even Deadly- as long as she felt safe.

MAC?” Blue.

There was no answer. WHY?

His computer has disconnected from me, Blue!” Kyle answered her unspoken question.

“WHY?” Kate shouted. She stud from the bed.

“Because you said you needed a cuddle!” Macs voice appeared from nowhere.

Kate jumped.

“MAC???” her voice was full of surprise anger and fear.

“Yes, darling?” he grinned.

“I thought you disconnected from Kyle?”

“I have,” Mac laugh. “But not from you!”

“What you...” Kate started, but suddenly she felt someone pulling her by the waist.

“I found a very interesting way to sneak into the enemy base,” Mac whispered into Kate’s ear. “Al tough I have to wear a cloak until I am back in my own company maps.”

Kate fought with the need to laugh. Was Mac really there or was she imagining him?

“So you are really here and its not just me going crazy?” Kate said back.

“No,” Mac grinned. “Al tough I like you crazy!”

“Well if you really are here then please just cut the slimy talk and give me a proper cuddle!” Kate turned around, assuming Mac was standing just behind him and lifted her arms into air to take her first really wanted hug.
