The Drums

The Drums

A Poem by Kat Mandu

The drums are beating,
Rhythmic melancholy.
Touch the metal holly;
Feel it strike your body.
The drums are beating,
In the stars,
In your ear,
Up on Mars,
Feeding fear.
Iron pounding,
Breaking bones,
The drums are sounding,
Hear beats resounding.
Steel in a post-apocalyptic dream,
Steel in the crown of an iron queen.
The metal sedan breaks beneath
The drums are sounding;
Silver nightmares die in sleep.
