Whispers ring like thick steel drums Windowed people smile and hum Boxed up in a silver cage The blinged-up schoolboys chant in rage In their eyes lie petty vices Monotony''s served at lunch in slices Moral nihilism reigns Even during playground games The kids slag off the pervy staff Behind their backs the teachers laugh Scoffing at the low-life teens The scavs and chavs and social scenes No learning here just desperation This is really education.
Wonderful work! This is only the second poem i've read from you, but I love your writing style, and this poem is an accurate description of the way many of us feel at school. Like we're being talked about and like we're not learning anything, almost like we learn more valuable lessons on the streets/ in social situations with peers, etc. And I also really loved that you used some UK slang, it makes it that much more personalized to you, but it also gives it a unique little touch that intrigues readers. Fantastic!

What a powerful, vivid, original way to describe the difference between formal classroom learning & the education that happens out on the playground or in the social experience of going to school. This is an important distinction about the kinds of things we learn in school. Even tho you use some idioms that are a bit unfamiliar to me (an old person), I was able to understand what you meant & everything you are saying. The idioms enrich this message, seemingly furthering the distinction between the kids in the know and those who are clueless.

I wrote this in my first year at college after escaping compulsory education so I guess it was just reflection of the past coming out.
