The Fifth Night

The Fifth Night

A Poem by Kat Mandu

Night five.

A phone rings.

No more words of warning,

A job so daunting.

While he stands so silently,

Empty faces stare at me.

The sign reads “Out of Order”

The curtains are closed.

Prepare for disorder;

She hides in the kitchen.

The room you cannot leave,

Full of cobwebs and lichen.

Laughter in the distance,

Footsteps in the night,

They wander, roam and walk the halls,

Your timing must be right.

Posters on the wall keep changing,

Puppets crying,

Children dying,

Articles are rearranging,

They keep out of sight.

Banging on the door,

You can take no more.

Made of gold,

His lifeless eyes,

So cold.

No moans,

No screams,

Just an empty face.

You are lost,

Gone without a trace.
