One Night

One Night

A Poem by Kat Mandu

Help me make it through the night.

Dread and fear

I cannot do what’s right.

Afraid of regret and damage

A terrible, pitiful sight.

Energy swirling,

So negative,

And constant whirring,

Cogs in my mind are jammed

Left so alone.

Dead inside.

Without a home.

No one to be beside.

A bitter taste lingers in my mouth

So dry and tasteless.

Shame in death

A final breath

Let me be taken in lieu,

Those defeated few.

Turn to the torch; there is no light

Help me make it through the night.
