The Monster Within

The Monster Within

A Poem by Grace

Before the rival he will meet.

Before the shredding with his teeth.

Before the roaring he will sound.

Before the lamb he will abound.

A little lion weak and small;

Who listens for his mother’s call.

His innocence has not been torn.

His heavy pride has not been worn.

But after youth he will awake,

And all his meekness he’ll forsake.

From his mother he will flee.

His independence then to be.

And from this cold and cunning form

Erupts and brings about a storm.

The little cub in him will die.

The monster in him will arise.

It’s then the rival he will meet.

It’s then the shredding with his teeth.

It’s then the roaring he can sound.

It’s then the lamb he does abound.

And so it is, his pride will stand

And all his youth he’ll kill and ban.

Why after that will he not seek

The innocence he did once keep?

A very smart/ clever piece! Literally, we all started from innocence until life teach us to be mature and strong. Metaphorically speaking, sometimes there are reasons why a lamb becomes a lion.

Excellent rhyming and rhythm. Kudos!
