Big MistakeA Chapter by Katheryn10Joel Joel opened his diary and began scribbling some lines out frantically. He knew that this was the best option. He couldn't go on living like this. Feeling Annas emotions was horrible and he was sick of it. Everytime she fed, everytime she had a nightmare, everytime she got upset. He thought it was purely strong emotions. Now it was getting stronger every day she got stronger. He had made his decision. He wanted to become like her. He knew it would kill his parents, metaphorically of course. But he didn't think he could go on like this otherwise. God only knew if distance would cure the connection but he didn't want to actually leave his family just to test it. His father would never change him, and sure as hell Anna wouldn't. He had done some research and one of his friends knew of a coven near by. Well, near as in 20 miles away of sorts. He didn't much like getting changed, because he knew it was painful. Going by youtube videos. He supposed he could ask his dad, as a hyperthetical question of course. But it was a long shot. He wrote the note anyway. He had written a note in his diary about why his wanted to change. He never knew when he might need reminding. He decided he was going to test out the theory with his father anyway. It was still light out so Anna wouldn't be awake yet. His father was in the kitchen eating toast and reading the daily newspaper. He seemed happy enough, not annoyed or anything. So this was as good a time as any, he supposed. "Hey Dad," he pointed to a seat opposite the table, "Mind if I keep you company?" he mused. His father looked up at him from his paper and smiled warmly, "'Course not, son." he then looked back at the paper. Joel looked around nervously, tapping the tips of his fingers on the glass topped table. "Um, Dad? Can I ask you a hyperthetical question?" he said, casting a glance every now and then to the kitchen door. Hoping that his mother wouldn't burst in at any moment. His father looked up then, and began folding the paper in a way that meant business. "Depends what it is, but of course. What is this hyperthetical question you're so nervous about asking?" he smiled curiously at Joel as though he could practically taste the sweat that was appearing on his forehead. "Well... I'm just curious, hyperthetically of course, how you would feel if I, one day, maybe, wanted to become a vampire?" he asked, looking in his fathers eyes for a second before casting his eyes back to the table. For the split second, he wondered if his father would be calm. But a second later, his father slammed his hand on the table, so hard that the boom vibrated to the other end of the table and around the room for that matter and shocked Joel out of his seat slightly. He seemed to realise his temper and then relaxed, "Well, hyperthetically, I would say that in no way shape or form would I ever let any son of mine, any daughter infact, become a vampire. Even... even if that said person insisted on such a transformation." he raised his eyebrows for a slight moment, "And what, may I ask, brought on such a question?" he raised his cup, that looked like camomile tea, to his lips and took a small sip before placing it smoothly back on the placemat. Joel got off his chair quickly and began to calmly walk around the table to head for the door. "No, no reason. Just curious. You know us teens, always reading far too many vampire books these days. Must run in the family," he laughed nervously, "Anyway I better go and, erm, tidy my room. Thanks for answering anyway. See ya, um, dad." he then raced off towards his room and began breathing so heavily he felt for a moment as if he might pass out. You're hyperventilating, he thought. Calm down, man. Get a grip. Packing the basics; toothbrush, toothpaste, spare jeans and tshirt, phone, charger (although he doubted they'd have a socket), socks, and a comb. He had quite rustled looking hair at the moment, but he didn't want to come home looking like he'd been dragged through a hedge - even if he had - several times. He bunched all these things in his backpack and went downstairs to where his father was still sipping his tea. "Hey Dad, you don't mind if I stay around Ashley's tonight do you? He invited me around to watch a football game, you know, us guys together. Shouting and stuff." he said, figiting with his shoulder straps. His father looked at him suspiciously for a moment then smiled, "Of course. Go, have fun. Don't be home too late tomorrow though. Your mother has something planned for dinner. Not sure what though, myself." he then waved him off and went back to his paper. Outside of the house, he quickly found his phone and rang for a taxi. It cost around £10 just to get to the Meadows Highhouse, which was where these guys lived. He knew Ashley, his best friend, wouldn't ask why he was covering for him, but that he would say Joel was there, even when he wasn't. Such a good friend. He wondered if he would still be mates even after this. Anna P.O.V Something's strange. It feels...empty in this house, for some weird reason. I look out the window, it's half past five in the afternoon, getting dim. It's been raining all day again. I sit back down and stretch. I look around my room, for a minute thinking that somethings amiss. "You're being stupid" I mutter. I get dressed in my usual attire; blue jeans, trainers and a slim fit tshirt that says "I can't hear you over the sound of my awesomeness". Although, that's not necessarily true. I could hear anyone over it, because I have amazing hearing. I wander out of my room to go for breakfast and decide to peak in Joels room. I feel safe today, like I could see all my family and not worry. But something peculiar makes me want to see Joel more so I knock on his door as it's next to mine. No answer. Hmm that's strange. "Hey Joel, you in there?" I call as I knock for a third time. I test the handle, it opens. His room is messy. Almost like he's been packing or something. Why did I think that? Duh I'm stupid! I wander over to his desk where he has his own laptop and papers. There's his diary laid out for all to see. Should I peek?, I ask myself. I dare myself, it works. I open the pages to find entries from this week. Thursday 23rd September 2009 I have decided I can't live like this. I can't handle Anna's stupid connection with me. I've decided to become a vampire. For when you read this back, remember who you were. Why you did what you did. It's for your own good, Joel. Remember that. Don't even think of regretting it because it'll all work out for the best. Just you realise that. Best of luck, pal, you're gonna need it. Until next time.... Oh My God. © 2010 Katheryn10 |
