FireA Poem by K.Wallace Stevens inspired poem.. written for a classI Awoken
from midnight slumber Frazzled
by hazy air Light
slips through curtains But
the sun sleeps on II Citrus
blaze illuminates the sky White
panels drip to earth The
sturdiest structure crumbles. III Panic
makes the earth spin Knees
on the ground, she heaves The
light of her life Precariously
close to fading IV Taunting
flames die slowly, Laughing
in the face of young warriors Fight
if you wish, but defeat will be yours The
damage will already be done V Out
of black clouds appears a monster Taking
the form of a man Gripping
fear as massive hands reach out He
holds his breath VI He
plunges into darkness Small
hands grasp tightly The
wrinkles of his coat Silently,
he makes a promise VII Eyes
strain against a glorious blaze Moments
are hours A
hero immerges, unwavering Under
the weight of innocence VIII His
agile body had escaped with ease Missing
only a small patch of fur On
the very tip of his tail © 2014 K.Reviews
