Fire

Fire

A Poem by K.
"

Wallace Stevens inspired poem.. written for a class

"

I

Awoken from midnight slumber

Frazzled by hazy air

Light slips through curtains

But the sun sleeps on

II

Citrus blaze illuminates the sky

White panels drip to earth

The sturdiest structure crumbles.

III

Panic makes the earth spin

Knees on the ground, she heaves

The light of her life

Precariously close to fading

IV

Taunting flames die slowly,

Laughing in the face of young warriors

Fight if you wish, but defeat will be yours

The damage will already be done

V

Out of black clouds appears a monster

Taking the form of a man

Gripping fear as massive hands reach out

He holds his breath

VI

He plunges into darkness

Small hands grasp tightly

The wrinkles of his coat

Silently, he makes a promise

VII

Eyes strain against a glorious blaze

Moments are hours

A hero immerges, unwavering

Under the weight of innocence

VIII

His agile body had escaped with ease

Missing only a small patch of fur

On the very tip of his tail

Licking smoke from his body he waits

I like the images and the "story-like" qualities of the piece!

They're all valid as stanzas to contemplate and think about. II is my favorite.

Stark and fierce, your words awaken all kinds of dark emotion. The flames devour and engulf the world... and life breaks free. So powerful, K!

Wow! Definitely fire, Katherine...I don't know this particular poet you have emulated, however, you've captured his essence in your words...yet, it simply is You, fashioned in his style emoting your feelings...it's beautiful to see you grow exponentially as a Poetess and a writer. Wonderful stuff.

Amazing content, well written stanzas.. Poem with strength, passion and had me as a reader on edge. Wish I knew more, but that's what beautiful about it, now my mind begins to imagine more and thus your work here is so well accomplished

A beautiful poem that was lovely to read. There are some great individual lines, like 'light slips through curtains' and rich descriptions that give meaning and structure.
