Be Still

Be Still

A Poem by Katerine

And so the diamond walls came falling
striking ground with bursts of white
And jagged edges lay it weeping
slay it keeping rays of breaking light
“The king has come” cries wildly each velvet shred,
The aching red
A gore clutched in chromatic glass
“The king has come”
Steep fragments clench their jaws

And so embellished cradle ruptured
Waste will foster in the cracks
and echo to enduring fables
each their long-indwelling end
A faceless portrait, tomb, and hearth, of callow queen
Absent the scene
hereafter shatters rumble deep
“Sing hollow Queen”
Sing fables, come to pause

And so the silence carries thickness
Hushing mute a single wail
which might have cried from some young frailty
Who lay stricken in jewel rifts
