The Doubt

The Doubt

A Poem by Kate Ruta

Is it doubt or a childhood memory

Easter Bunny comes hopping along to hide those colored eggs.

The excitement of the hunt for those eggs.

Tooth Fairy comes to give you a coin

For that tooth you loose

Santa Clause comes in a sled and reindeers

To give you those gifts under that tree

If you were a good boy or girl.

You can say this is Religious Doubt

Is this Religious Doubt or does,

Religion make these character doubt Religion?

But.

Is it?

Religious Doubt

Or is it children being children and enjoying

There childhood.

To ruin their childhood by hate

Because you think

Think

It is against

Religion

The excitement and joy of the new things to see

The new hunt to find these items of joy

The childhood moments

Turned into doubt

To grow up to see that they never were

Brings doubt on why

Why? Why?

Tell something exists when it does not.

That is the doubt to say something exists

But is not true.

Brings doubt, makes you see.

See around you to see,

What is not true.

Religion.

Is it true?

Easter Bunny.

Is that true?

The Tooth Fairy.

That true, right?

Santa Clause, the happy jolly man.

Please tell me that is true.

No it is not true.

That was very cool... I feel like I was made privy to a conversation you were having in your head, one that was in all of our heads at one point in our lives!! Having this to and fro battle we suffer nicely in our days, sounds pretty cool in the way you have posed questions, gave your point of view, and came full circle with your hands up in the air as if to ask "What the Heck?" : ) I think all these stories are born for fantasy and well-wishing because it is not only in our time that these stories were something that would feed the minds of youth. These were stories that would sustain months of wonder leading up to whatever tradition one would follow and then their hearts to fill in the blanks. My mom had a curious sense about her to explain that fairy tales actually came from superstitions and crimes committed some 100-300 years ago, and some going back as far as 1,000+ years!! : ) Couldn't help but be the constant gardener when it came for looking up information on why all these things existed, like the topics and questions that YOU raise here. Love this!! xoxo -Mark

Thanks.
A History major writing about this subject. "Santa Clause" Very nice. I like the mix of culture and stigma. That was just what I was looking for right then.
