Illusion

Illusion

A Poem by Kate Henderson

I'm not real
I close my eyes and
Everything slips into darkness
The world of light
An illusion
To cover the blackness
Of the void
To keep me calm
But now I'm slipping through
That veil so thin
Which always seemed so real
So palpable
As breath on a winter's day
My eyes open
I see my arms
My legs
But I can't feel them
They aren't really there
I'm standing on the surface
Of water infinitely deep
And yet I don't fall through
The blood is red
The mirror says it's running
Down my face
Help me magic mirror
Take my eyes off of the
Vivid life
That stains my vision red
Call me back
Before I'm lost
Forever

That thin line between reality and illusion is what some of us walk without realising. I like the use of the mirror, to reflect, to trap, to deceive, to save. Nicely done. Penny

A marvelous elaboration regarding how if feels when a tight grip seems to slip from the sometimes slippery handholds of what we call reality. Introspective and expressive. Well done, dear poet.
