After You're Gone

After You're Gone

Thoughts on the death of a lover.

After You're Gone

One week ago the last tiny part of my heart died.
One week ago I held your hand as you drew your last breath.
One week ago my last hope of an 'us' in this world died.
One week ago I promised you forever.

Today I look down at the last visible sign of your existence
As the cold rain streams down my cheeks
Taking my tears with it.
But I feel only the pain in my heart.

Today the weather mirrors my feelings
Dark, stormy, depressing
With no silver lining on the horizon
Taking every hope of happiness away

Today I renew my promise to you
As I did yesterday
And the day before that
Ever since you left.

Today I realize once again
What I refused to see all these years.
That we are one
Never to be separated.

Tomorrow will be a new day.
Tomorrow the pain will be even worse.
Tomorrow my heart will harden even more.
Tomorrow will bring me even closer to you.

Until I will join you
For eternity.

Well done, I even liked your font! It was well formatted, had good flow and rhyme and painted a picture, though a sad one. This is full of love, saddness and tears as well as pain yet at the very end, it help (a) promise of eternity. Well done!
