Kaitlin Baronas ENG 1D1 Mrs. Stahlbaum 13 November 2010. A Biography on Kirk James Elley Kirk James Elley, born in 1951 he is an retired teacher and paramedic. Born in Picton Ontario, though raised in Aylmer since the age of two, he has lived there most of his life. Happily married to wife June Elley, in the year 1976. They have 3 children, (all in there +20's) one son, two daughters, and a dog named Angus. Kirk also has a new grand-daughter, Mikayla " she's the world to me... I love her more than anything". One thing he has always loved was the power of help. Kirk Elley was a paramedic for 18 years before retiring, in that time they had gotten 5000 calls. He schooled at EMCA Collage for 3 years. The working hours were 1 in the morning to 9am and 5 in the evening to 9 at night, though most cases they would have lots of calls in a hour, to nothing for straight days. When a call did come, he would witness parents losing there children, peoples limbs off, dead body's and that moment when everything it just silent like the world itself froze. Mr. Elley learned fear by being a paramedic, he says ' you never feel afraid it's the difference to fear'. One time on the job he came across a man who wanted to commit suicide. The setting was in his trainer, the man had gasoline all around himself, with a lighter in his hand. Kirk saw this as a chance to sit down and talk it through, and that's just what he did. He asked the man what was the problem, Kirk loved him and related to what had happened to him. When Kirk had gained his trust he had to tell him he would be arrested. When this happens you really do not take into accord that people you know, see, or are friends with would ever do that. Even Mr. Elley gets surprised by the outcome of events that take place. Challenges come from all corners, if someone is just moments dead you can work to the point were that person can breath again. That risk you take to save a person from that revive line, or that rush you get when you did the right thing. This is why Kirk James Elley loved being a paramedic. As a younger Kirk he loved life and sports, though he hated school, he felt (pressure) he had to finish to achieve in life. Going to school at Davenport, he was sergeant in grade7 and making captain in grade8. He was lifeguard in the summer for a job, he never liked the fact of others dying from simple drownings and hazards. After being a lifeguard for many for many years, he was appointed lifesaving chairman. Also when he started his career as a paramedic he was one of few who were part of the CPR response team. When Kirk was a teacher and became a paramedic in those 33 years, he became head of code blue at EESS (East Elgin Secondary School - doctor). To conclude, Mr. Elley is a very proud man and his motto describes how he accomplished all the challenges in life by "getting' r done". He is committed now to working substitute teacher, but most of his time at home with Angus and Mikayla. Now as a retired man, he enjoys working outside, likes keeping clean and organized, and is very intuit at his Christian church. His family is his heart and soul! © 2010 Kaitlynn Ronas (Pandora) |
