To meditate

To meditate

A Poem by Kate AKS
"

It's such difficult to find quietness in own mind

"

*

I put a cushion, my legs are crossed.

My eyes are closed and my mind

Is jumping over all topics which

It doesn’t matter now. I try to meditate.

I close my eyes and deeply breathe,

Again, I missed counting before inhaling

Or, was to exhale, I made a note

About what I will be doing

After a moment of calmness

Which I allowed myself

To meditate. I hear the bird and

I remember the cat which walks

Around the house. Now all my thoughts

Are about birds which should fly

Or how could I disturb the cat?

Do cat meditate when lying

Under the sun and don’t care about

Birds which are so close to the

Branches. I try to meditate. I spend

Whole ten minutes listening

To music which would gave

My mind had some direction.

It didn’t work. I find the

Answer. The yoga pants, not

Music will bring my mind

To meditate. It’s all so simple.

I will do it next time.

For sure, if not, you would think

About birds, about cats.

Or should I think about yoga pants

To meditate.

Kate,
First, let me say I LOVE your voice... translated into a Slavic-English it is beautiful!
I am impressed with your depth and irreverent humor. You ask what distracts me from my meditation, but since I do not meditate as an activity in itself, I can only tell you what distracts me from my usual peace of mind. It feels today that the whole world has gone crazy, and violent, and selfish, that no one has peace and no one is looking for it either. I live in a tiny, isolated town with only about twelve homes, so it is usually very quiet, and I am retired, so my only duties are to clean up after myself, read, write, and visit my online interests. I am not under any threats.
I have no idea what it is like to live with war outside my door, something you face daily, while I sit in air-conditioned comfort in America. I hope your country and your people find peace next year, and your Yoga pants are comfortable and stylish enough to inspire more great poetry.
