Standing on the sidelines

Here I am  standing on the sidelines,

Just your little tag along.

Here I am standing on the sidelines,

Somewhere I don't belong.

Here I am standing on the sidelines,

Am I really your friend?

Here I am standing on the sidelines,

Do you like me or just pretend?

Here I am standing on the sidelines,

Do you even care?

Here I am standing on the sidelines,

Do you even know I'm there?

Here I am standing on the sidelines,

It's really hurting now.

Here I am standing on the sidelines,

But to your needs I bow.

Here I am standing on the sidelines,

I can't take it anymore.

I'm no longer standing on the sidelines,

Like I did before.

Ah...the hurt of being the ''third wheel'', the "different in the same"...i always admire how people phrase this feeling as it accords to them. I enjoyed this...

Watching others is one of the hardest things to do...especially when you feel you are on the outside of the connection all the time. The feeling of loneliness comes through your use of the word "sidelines". I love how it all goes back to that thought. It is..as you have describe to a tee..the place we all like least...last...and never want to be...add in if it's a male you hope notices you finally but never seems to see you is just devistating...very nice flow and ease throughout even though it has that sadness. Like your playing the love theme in the original Superman movie "Can You Read My Mind". It keeps going back also to one same original thought..as you have penned. Sorry (I know that reference dates me but it is just what popped up in my head while reading your piece here) The melody in the background is what made the connection for me..as with your trying to be seen but not thoughts :)
