Flights of Fancy

Flights of Fancy

A Story by Kat Collins
"

A little ditty that I wrote some time ago about dreams, fairies, dreamers, and a palace in the sky.

"

Inky black, th edarkened sky fills with wishful dreams, rising from the sleepers elow. Stars twinkle here and there, shining a pale, sparkly yellow, resembling blinking fireflies. Pale blue and luminous, the faceless moon watches over the dreamers. Rising around every corner, the dreams and wishes invade the night, filled with longing, hope, and desire. Floating upwards in the misty moonlight, they cry out to be heard and answered.

The Keepers of the Dreams are busy tonight, slaving to fill everyone's requests. Bustling here and there among the winking stars, they stuff their tan, leather bags with various dreams and wishes, handling them gently so none will be crushed. Their pure, virgin white robes billow like fluffy, white clouds. those who have been here forever show off long, flowing bears and shiny, bald heads. the younger ones still retaining their earthly look. Spiriting about, they all grip their bags in a frenzy with tapering, nible fingers, youthful fingers. With sparkly eyes of all colors and bodies of all heights, the fairy-liek figures bound across the endless sky, searching and reaching for dreams that are tucked into unknown corners.

Loaded with all they can handle, they head back to the palace of dreams, known as Flight of Fancy. With a twitch of their noses and a snap fo their fingers, they appear outside the crystal palace that floats near the moon. A towering door with a prism of colors shooting through it, opens wide as though it is welcoming old friends. Filing in one by one, they turn to their left and bow gracefully on their knees, paying homage to the king and queen of dreams, Lucifer and Artemis.

Sitting upon their regal thrones, they gaze majestically at their people, nodding slightly as each one takes their turn before them. Silky curtains mottled with black and ivory, drape around them, as smooth as buttermilk, creating a picture frame that encases the royal couple.
